UX/UI design for the catalog lookup component of FMmotorparts.com
Project Overview
Part of a larger project aiming to align the company’s catalog data globally across the organization, the new catalog lookup needed to visually align two very different sets of catalog data and work within the existing website styling/layout, while also maintaining responsiveness for mobile. The consumer behavior of each region posed an additional challenge to deliver an effective solution. I was responsible for the initial design comps that were passed along to the development partner for implementation

Regional Adaptability
Catalog data standards between both regions varied greatly, with North America using ACES and PIES and EMEA rooted in TecDoc. The user data gathered also showed customer expectations differed on what the lookup experience should be. Our solution was to serve up two views that could be toggled to accommodate the regional perspectives.
Globalized Part Details
The part details page was setup to serve the each region’s data sets in a unified way. They layout was setup so that applicable elements would display based on the user’s country or locale. This allowed for the site to not only adapt to the needs of the user, but to the backend data driving the site’s presentation.
Following Tenneco’s acquisition of FM Motorparts, project was canceled due to an organizational switch to a regional structure
